Road Map to Riches

Posted By Book Reader on December 30, 2009

Several years ago a gentleman by the name of W. Clement Stone turned $100 into an organization that today, produces a gross annual income of over thirty-six million dollars. Several years before that, a lowly steel worker turned his dreams into a multi-billion dollar empire that still flourishes today. His name was Andrew Carnegie.

How can one start at little or nothing and create a life so abundant and fulfilling? We will discover a few of those principles in my brief series of articles following Napolean Hill’s formulas.

The book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill, was influenced by Andrew Carnegie. It was Mr. Carnegie’s wish that the “Secret” to riches be distributed to people all over the world. He wanted everyone to have the chance at a life full of abundance and wealth and prosperity. It was through Napolean Hill that this wish became reality. As the best selling book of it’s kind, “Think and Grow Rich” has influenced thousands upon thousands of people to take action.

We will discuss, briefly, the ideas behind the “Secret” and will put together a road map for you to follow. It is my recommendation that you go out immediately and purchase this book. It will be a great resource to you if you choose to follow these principles and learn how to think and grow rich.

You may or may not have heard that thoughts are things. Science has proven this to be true. Through some natural phenomenon, still unfathomed and unnamed, an intangible idea can be turned into material rewards.

Definite Purpose.
Desire.
Persistence.

It is these three attributes that you will need to adopt in order to make this principle work for you.

Let us begin our journey with this idea: “Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do.” (Think and Grow Rich, Napolean Hill, 1960)

In order to rise above the majority or status-quo and begin living the life you desire, you must remove yourself from the mainstream and begin thinking and working differently.

The idea that thoughts are things can be easily illustrated through the following story: Henry Ford decided to produce a V8 engine with all 8 cylinders within one engine block, in one piece. He put the task to his team of engineers who were able to put the design on paper but concurred that actually creating the engine would be impossible. Through several nudges and pushes by Ford, the engineers, at the end of one years time, still had not accomplished the feat. Henry Ford knew what he wanted and pushed still further to move ahead with the plans. As if by magic, the engineers produced the first V8 engine! Truly, a definite purpose followed up by persistence, turned that idea into a physical reward.

After the great Chicago fire, a few businessmen were standing at the site where their stores once stood. They started talking of future endeavors and plans to rebuild. All decided to pack up and move to various other cities across the country, save one man. He stood and stated, “Gentlemen, on that very spot I will build the world’s greatest store, no matter how many times it may burn down.” Today, Marshall Field’s store still stands; a tribute to the specific state of mind known as burning desire.

No one is ever defeated until they accept defeat as reality. Think if Lance Armstrong, growing up and adventuring into the sport of bike riding, had just decided not to “get back up” after the third or tenth time falling down! Think if he had quit at the top of his game or not come back after his very tragic and very public health problems! What a light he has been to this world as a living truth that definiteness of purpose, desire and persistence truly pay off.

It is a habit of opportunity to show up disguised as misfortune or temporary defeat. And the difference between the Lance Armstong’s and John Doe’s of the world is that one decides to keep moving forward, focusing intensely on the prize and taking steps to reach it, the other gives up and accepts defeat as reality.

There is one other difference between these two categories of people. The first has a strong desire to be successful and knows what that means for them, while the other is uncertain as to what success means for them so they put no passion behind their efforts. “Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.” (Think and Grow Rich, Napolean Hill, 1960)

Here is your map, from point A to point B, how to think and grow rich:

1. Decide the exact amount of money you desire. Be specific.
2. Decide what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. You will not be given something for nothing; that is not how the universe works.
3. Set a date by which you will possess that amount of money.
4. Create a plan for how to acquire that money.
5. Write out a statement including all of steps 1-4. Be clear and concise.
6. Read that statement out loud twice daily.

It may be difficult to comprehend that the six steps above will bring you wealth and riches. However, it is important for you to realize that this road map has been tried and tested and proven by hundreds of the world’s most successful, rich and happy people. Although this process does not require any hard work or college level education, it will require consistency of practice. You must desire something so intensely that your desire becomes a burning desire which then becomes an obsession.
Once you have reached the point of obsession, applying the state of mind of belief or faith will turn those desires into material rewards by tapping into the universe and Infinite Intelligence.

We will discuss in the next article how to create faith where currently none exists, and discuss the importance of faith in obtaining your goals.
